Lesson planning really sucks (but it’s important)
I have a private student. It wasn’t until I was paid a week ago that I realized that the money is pretty good. I get paid $450 for a 90 minute session. That’s $39 a hour in USD. This isn’t bad. If I took on a few more students I could probably cover my rent! But, I only have energy for a student. Maybe in the future when my schedule frees up, but for now just the one private student. Thank you Eureka!
It was a cool Saturday afternoon. I can’t get over how cool it is right now in Hong Kong. Everyone thinks Hong Kong is tropical year-round. This just isn’t true. I’ve finally had to break out my Banana Republic peacoat I brought over from New York and started wearing it today. The great thing about this weather is how enjoyable it is to walk through crowded Kowloon neighborhoods like Mongkok. Neighborhoods like Mongkok and Yau Ma Tei are unbearable over the summer.
It is 8:26pm, and I am planning my lessons for tomorrow. There is always a bit of customization that is needed especially if student ability is low. I just can’t depend on my teacher notes. But, it is such a time drain.
I have to be at Ma On Shan early tomorrow. It takes me over a hour to get to by bus. By MTR it takes 30 minutes longer. Teaching is rewarding, but it is not an easy life.
